If you’re planning a trip to Mauritius, one of the most stunning islands in the Indian Ocean, the Shangri-La Le Touessrok is likely on your radar as one of the top luxury resorts to consider. Known for its crystal-clear waters, lush landscapes, and welcoming vibe, Mauritius is a destination where you can both unwind and explore.

The Shangri-La has been a key part of the island’s hospitality scene for over 40 years. It opened in 1976 and underwent a major renovation in 2015. It’s known for its beautiful beachfront, private island access, and laid-back style combined with world-class service. Whether you’re here for relaxation, adventure, or both, this resort offers something unique for everyone.

In this review, I’ll share all the details you need to help you decide if this resort is the right fit for your trip and what to expect when you arrive.

Here we go! Let’s determine if staying here is worth it while we cover all aspects of the hotel, from the rooms to the location.

The Location

Shangri-La Mauritius

The Shangri-La Le Touessrok is located on the east side of Mauritius, which makes it the perfect spot if you’re looking to escape the crowds and enjoy a quieter, more serene atmosphere. The drive from the airport is about 50 minutes, and it gives you a chance to take in some of the island’s natural beauty along the way.

Since the hotel is a bit further away from the airport, you can either rent a car or arrange a hotel pickup. I’d recommend basing your decision on your plans for the rest of your trip. The hotel pickup options vary from about $100 to $260 (MUR 4,100-11,000), depending on the car type. Alternatively, a local taxi ride will run you around $70 (MUR 3,500). Keep in mind that in Mauritius, they drive on the left side of the road, but the roads are easy to navigate, so renting a car can be a great option if you prefer not to rely on taxis.

Being on the east side also means the beaches here are less rocky and tend to have less wind, making it ideal for ultimate relaxation by the water. However, if you're looking to be closer to other main attractions, you might need to plan a bit more for trips off the property.

The Rooms

The Shangri-La Le Touessrok offers a variety of rooms to suit different group sizes and preferences. From spacious three-bedroom villas perfect for families or larger groups to more intimate two-adult rooms for a quieter stay.

I stayed in the Coral Beachfront Suite, and I absolutely loved the patio – it was such a great spot to step out and enjoy the beach right from the room. Whether it’s sipping your morning coffee or enjoying a glass of wine in the late afternoon, it’s the perfect little escape. The beach is literally at your doorstep!

The Restaurant

The Shangri-La Le Touessrok offers a wide range of dining options, from fresh seafood to Asian dishes. For me, one of the highlights is the breakfast buffet, which is hands down one of the best I’ve ever experienced anywhere in the world. The spread is massive, with multiple stations offering cuisines from all over the globe, and everything tastes incredibly fresh. Trust me, it’s worth coming just to experience this breakfast!

And if you're in the mood for a laid-back lunch, head over to the private island, where there's a restaurant right on the beach. You can enjoy everything from pizza to fresh seafood, all paired with a refreshing tropical cocktail as you take in the stunning views. It’s the perfect spot to unwind while enjoying a delicious meal with your toes in the sand.

The Amenities

Shangri-La Mauritius Pool

There’s plenty to do at Shangri-La Le Touessrok, whether you want to relax or get adventurous. You can head over to the private island for some quiet time or dive into water activities like snorkeling and paddleboarding. There are multiple pools and beaches, including an adults-only pool, giving you the option to find the perfect spot to relax each day. If you're looking for something more exciting, they’ve got people who can organize boat trips and other water activities.

For golf lovers, the resort features an 18-hole championship golf course, perfect for getting in a round while enjoying the stunning views. And for something truly special, there’s a helipad at the resort if you want to take a helicopter ride to see the incredible underwater waterfall. There’s no shortage of things to do.

The Verdict

Shangri-La Mauritius Beach

Overall, I had an amazing stay at the Shangri-La Le Touessrok, and I honestly think it was the best hotel I stayed at in Mauritius when it comes to the staff. The team here is exceptional – they strike the perfect balance between being professional and friendly, making you feel at home while still offering that luxury touch. The breakfast was hands down the best I had at any hotel on the island, and with so many pools, beaches, and water activities, there’s always something to do or a place to relax. I especially appreciated the variety of restaurants with different cuisines, the spacious rooms, and the range of activities for both adults and kids.

On the downside, the resort is a bit further from the airport and the capital, so exploring beyond the property requires a car or taxi. The restaurants are on the pricier side, and reservations are a must, which means you’ll need to plan ahead.

Despite these small cons, I would highly recommend the Shangri-La, especially for families. With kid-friendly pools, activities, and even a 24/7 nurse on-site, it’s perfect for those looking to relax while keeping the little ones entertained.
