Inside One&Only Le Saint Géran: Is This the Best Luxury Resort in Mauritius?

One&Only Le Saint Geran Mauritius

Few hotels can claim icon status, but One&Only Le Saint Géran has been a symbol of luxury in Mauritius for decades. Originally opening in 1975, it was one of the first high-end resorts on the island, setting the stage for world-class hospitality long before Mauritius became a go-to destination for luxury travelers. After a major renovation in 2017, it promises a fresh take on paradise—blending its classic charm with modern indulgence. If you do any research on luxury hotels in Mauritius, this one consistently comes out on top, with glowing reviews praising everything from its beachfront setting to its impeccable service.

During my time in Mauritius, I had the chance to stay at multiple luxury resorts, giving me a real sense of how One&Only Le Saint Géran compares. With its private peninsula, calm lagoon waters, and long-standing reputation, it certainly looks like a dream escape—but does it live up to its expectations? This review takes a deep dive into the experience, from the design and dining to the overall stay.

Here we go! Let’s determine if staying here is worth it while we cover all aspects of the hotel, from the rooms to the location.

The Location

If you're looking for that postcard-perfect beach, the northeast coast of Mauritius delivers—and locals will be the first to tell you that this is where the best beaches are. One&Only Le Saint Géran sits right in the middle of it all, with soft white sand, crystal-clear waters, and barely a rock in sight. Compared to other parts of the island, this area also tends to be less windy most of the time, making it an ideal spot for lazy beach days and stress-free dips in the ocean.

What makes the setting even more special is the lush, tropical feel. Towering palm trees and endless greenery surround the resort, with birds singing in the background. The resort itself isn’t massive, which adds to its charm—you can walk everywhere without needing a buggy, making it easy to soak in the surroundings at your own pace. The combination of beachside beauty, vibrant nature vibes, and a walkable layout gives the whole place a laid-back yet exclusive atmosphere, perfect for ultimate relaxation.

The Rooms

One&Only Le Saint Géran has a range of rooms to choose from, depending on what kind of vibe you're going for. There are garden rooms if you want a peaceful, private space surrounded by lush greenery. If you'd rather be close to the water, the oceanview rooms give you those gorgeous sea views. For something a little extra, the suites offer tons of space, and some even come with private pools.

I stayed in one of the beachfront rooms; honestly, it was everything you’d want for a relaxing stay. The rooms are spacious, filled with light, and comfortable. The best part? There’s a small patio right by the beach, which is perfect for sipping coffee in the morning or enjoying a glass of wine in the evening while watching the waves.

Just a heads-up, privacy isn’t the strongest feature in these beachfront rooms. Since they’re right on the beach, you’ll get some foot traffic as people walk by, so it’s not the most secluded spot. But if you don’t mind a little stroll by, the location and views are beautiful.

The Restaurant

Lunch Beach

The hotel offers a bunch of dining options, so you're never short on choices. For a laid-back meal by the beach, La Pointe is perfect with its Mediterranean-inspired dishes, while Tapasake combines Japanese and Spanish flavors for a unique twist on sushi and tapas—definitely a standout. Prime offers elegant steak and seafood for a more refined dining experience, and The Plantation is where you’ll find the breakfast buffet as well as lunch and dinner options. They also feature live entertainment here, so it’s a fun spot to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Now, I’ll be honest: If you’re not a big eater like me, the buffet at The Plantation might feel a bit much. It’s around $100 per person (excluding drinks), and while the selection is vast, I didn’t find the quality to be all that great. But on the flip side, Tapasake and La Pointe were both amazing, so if you’re looking for something more flavorful and exciting, those two are definitely worth checking out.

The Amenities

Spa One&Only Le Saint Geran

One&Only Le Saint Géran makes sure you’re covered for everything from relaxation to adventure. If you’re all about the beach, the soft sands and clear water are perfect for lounging or swimming. There’s even a pool by the beach if you prefer to stay in the water without getting your feet in the sand, plus you can rent a cabana with a view of the beach for that extra bit of luxury. If you’re looking for something a bit quieter, the spa pool offers a peaceful retreat where you can enjoy the water in total silence.

And if you're feeling active, the resort offers tons of options like water sports, a fitness center, and even an 18-hole golf course. For families, there’s a kids’ club, so the little ones can have their fun while you take some time for yourself.

The Verdict

One&Only Saint Geran

Overall, my stay at One&Only Le Saint Géran was fantastic. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with a glass of champagne, a small touch but one that really makes you feel special. You also get a personal host assigned to you who you can contact for anything throughout your stay, like excursions, restaurant reservations, you name it.

During one of the excursions, I learned from one of the guides that One&Only has the most extensive and prestigious hospitality training on the island, and you really notice it in the friendly, professional, and accommodating staff. That’s something I didn’t always experience at the other resorts I stayed at. Want to know which ones? Check out my complete Mauritius luxury hotel guide.

If I had to pick a couple of things to improve, it would be the lack of privacy in the beachfront rooms. People walk by your terrace all the time, and I did find that a little distracting. If I returned, I’d definitely try to book a more secluded room. As for the food, I wouldn’t go for the buffet-style dinner again—room service or one of the other restaurants is the way to go for better price and quality, especially if you’re not a big eater. That said, I really enjoyed my stay, and I can see why One&Only Le Saint Géran is considered one of the best hotels in Mauritius.

I hope this was helpful. If you have any more questions, you can always reach out here or on Instagram, and I’m more than happy to answer any of your questions. Happy Travels!
